Ibis Paint X Update: Embedding Creator Information with Wacom Yuify and Expanded Tools

The ibisPaint update introduces Wacom Yuify, a service that records information about the creation of artworks in images in the form of a micromark and embeds it without altering the image’s appearance. This article compiles the key features and step-by-step processes from the update draft to help users understand how to export images with embedded author information, manage color palettes, utilize new brushes and filters, and explore workflow enhancements.

Embedding author information and creation history with Wacom Yuify

Wacom Yuify is a service that records information about the creation of artworks in images in the form of a "micromark." Your proof of creation is embedded in the image without changing its appearance. Tap ③[Register with Yuify] to start uploading the image and creation history information to Yuify. Please note that registering an artwork requires signing in to ibisPaint and linking with your Wacom ID. If you have not yet signed in to ibisPaint, a sign-in screen will appear. Next, if you have not yet linked your ibisPaint account with your Wacom ID, a browser will open and the Wacom ID sign-in screen will appear. Tap ④[Log in] and follow the instructions to complete the sign-in. If you do not have an account, please create a new Wacom ID from ⑤[Sign Up].

Once your ibisPaint account is linked with your Wacom ID, please reopen the ibisPaint app. Once the registration of your artwork to Yuify is complete, a screen will appear to select where to save the image with the embedded micromark. Yuifinder is a service that searches for creator information from images with embedded micromarks. You can now create and save multiple color palettes in the Color window. Since palettes can be freely switched to match the artwork or purpose, it becomes much smoother to manage different color schemes for each illustration. You can also reorder colors in the Color Palette simply by dragging them. Tap the [⋮] button to open the menu. Select [Create New Palette] to create a new color palette. The Expand/Collapse button can be used to expand/collapse color palettes. You can now export and import color palettes. Tap the Color Button to open the Color Window. The QR code for the color palette has been saved.

Color management and new animation features

Under File Type, choose the format you want to export. If you select PSD, choose RGB or CMYK under Color Space. If you select JPEG as the file format, you can choose from RGB, CMYK, or Gray Scale (8-bit) under Color Space. A new "Gradation Pen" has been added to "Special Pens." In Gradation, select the gradation colors and transitions, and adjust other settings as desired. If you want to add a gradient on top of artwork that is already drawn on the layer, select Add Mode. Drag on the canvas to adjust the length and direction of the gradation. In the Gradation filter, you can now edit the gradation using the Gradation Control Line. The Gradation Control Line will appear on the canvas. You can move the gradient by dragging the Gradation Control Line and adjust the intermediate value with the center knob on the line.

A new "Floating Color Window" feature has been added, allowing you to keep the Color window always displayed on the canvas screen. Drag the bottom right of the Floating Color Window to freely adjust its size. You can now use a graph to adjust how each individual brush responds to pressure, specifically for thickness and opacity. Brush-specific settings are combined with the Pressure Sensitivity Graph found in the Settings window. Turn on Thickness in the Pressure Sensitivity section at the bottom of the Dynamic tab; the Opacity graph sits below the Thickness graph. A new feature has been added that allows you to lock brush settings such as brush size and opacity. The Settings window will open. From Brush Cursor while Hovering, select Brush Pattern. The following 15 filters can now be used as adjustment layers: Chromatic Aberration (Moving), Chromatic Aberration (Zooming), Glitch, Hexagonal Pixelate, Square Pixelate, Triangular Pixelate, Dot (Hexagonal), Dot (Square), Expansion, Fisheye Lens, Sphere Lens, Wave, Ripple, Swirl, and Polar Coordinates. By using adjustment layers, popular finishing effects such as Chromatic Aberration and Glitch can be applied to your artwork without merging layers.

Workflow enhancements: shortcuts, imports, and layer management

We have added many new keyboard shortcuts that can be used on Windows PC, Mac, iPhone (iOS 14.0 or later), iPad (iPadOS 14.0 or later), and Android with a Bluetooth or USB keyboard connected. You can now also display a list of available keyboard shortcuts. You can now import images by dragging and dropping image files directly into the ibisPaint window. If you drag and drop an image onto the Title screen or My Gallery screen, a new artwork will be created from that image. You can drag and drop image files directly onto the canvas as well. The image is loaded as a layer, and the Transform tool is activated. A Layer Lock function has been added to the Layer window. By locking a layer, you can restrict actions such as deleting it, moving its contents, drawing with brushes, or applying filters.

When sending PNG or JPEG files to ibisPaint via Share or Open with this program, an artwork file (IPV file) is now automatically created based on the image file. A new feature to the vector tool allows erasing lines with a dedicated vector eraser and editing intersections. You can choose the line end shape with Fade or Round. For whole lines or short segments, specific controls exist to delete or modify accordingly. A new vector tool behavior helps simplify brush and curve shapes by reducing vertices while preserving overall form within Brush Shape Simplification mode.

New tools, filters, and organizational features

The Quick Eyedropper, Layer Window, and Layer Selection enhancements streamline color picking and layer management. The Color window improvements include a Floating Color Window and a saved QR code for quick palette reuse. The Watercolor Filter has been added to the AI filter category with saturation adjustments. The eyedropper now displays the layer name containing the drawing at the eyedropper position, and tapping the displayed name sets the working layer to that layer. The Watercolor Filter is compatible with keyboard shortcuts for multiple devices. The Artworks Folder feature has been added to My Gallery, enabling organization of artworks into separate folders. A Floating Layer Window allows the Layer window to stay visible on the working area, with resizable control. The Background Removal feature is now part of Filter (AI), letting you specify the object to cut out immediately after activation.

A Material Tool now enables searching for materials by keywords from a library of over 18,000 items, significantly reducing search time. The Brush Search feature lets you type the brush name in the Brush window Search Box to quickly locate brushes. The Retro Game filter has been added to Filter (Artistic), and Spin Blur is available in Filter (Blur). A History category in the Filter Category Selection Menu makes it easy to revisit frequently used filters. The app emphasizes that ibisPaint is a comprehensive toolset for creating manga and illustrations with features like Screen Tone, Frame Divider, and Text input with fonts, alongside a robust community on ibispaint.com.

Animation, premium features, and platform compatibility

You can now use the Animation Function to easily create animations by creating a New Canvas, selecting 1 Animation size, adjusting Frames per Second, and adding frames to build the sequence. The Background Removal feature in AI enables quick object isolation, while the Material Tool and Brush improvements enhance material and brush management. The History retrieval function saves artworks’ previous states as IPV files while playing a time-lapse video. ibisPaint now supports Premium Membership on Windows, offering extra cloud storage, premium materials, fonts, and more, with a 7-day or 1-month free trial available for first-time users. The app is compatible across Windows PCs, Mac, iPhone/iPad, and Android devices, with expansive keyboard shortcuts for all supported platforms and dedicated features like premium brushes, filters, and cloud storage integration.
